September 26 – October 1

Students are settling down and showing more personal responsibility for their learning. To support that effort, we will begin basic training in how to use the St. John planners. Students will write down reminders of upcoming events and any unfinished school work that is to be done at home. Help your child by asking them to open their planner each evening to check what needs to be done.

Religion: Seasons of Creation continued.

Math: Use place value understanding and properties of operations to perform multi-digit arithmetic

Reading: Making connections with informational and Literary text

Writing: Building a strong foundation with an introduction to 3 types of writing: Narrative, informative, and Opinion

Grammar: Personal Pronouns

Other: MAP Reading and Math testing. Hispanic History Mont

September 20 – 24

Curriculum for the week:

Math: Use place value understanding and properties of operations to perform multi-digit arithmetic CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.4.NBT.B.4

Writing: Begin unit focused on Opinion Writing. Students will support a point of view with reasons and information. CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.4.1

Grammar: Study and learn about prepositions, conjunctions and adverbs. Review nouns and verbs.

Religion: Learn and reflect on the Seasons of Creation.

Social Studies: Hispanic Heritage Month study and banner project.

Reading with Mrs.Halley: Determine the main idea of a text and explain how it is supported by key details; summarize the text. Read and respond to informational text related to Hispanic Heritage. CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.4.2

 

Week of September 12

Math: “Consensograms” collect and analyze class data.
Problem solving using “YouCubed” as well as growth mindset for mathematics.
Writing:  Discuss “Why do we write?”  Students will also complete baseline writing assessments.
Social Studies: Hispanic History Month activities and discussions. Also, an introduction to the Washington State History Textbook.
Religion: Learn about our  Saint of the Month: Mother Teresa.
The class will also be introduced to the Season of Creation. The next five weeks lead to the feast of St. Francis. This time, the Season of Creation, emphasizes the need for prayer and action as we care for our environment.
Second Step: Ms. Shaw will join us every Thursday this Trimester for a whole class lesson. This Thursday’s lesson will focus on  Emotion Management; “What is Rethinking” 
Grammar: 10 minutes a day! Review this week.
